Welcome to Beautiful Delusions launch day. Get your hands on the latest offering from this awesome lady, Ember-Raine Winters, and head on over to the party tonight for fun, games and prizes! Oh, and I grabbed her for an interview too 😉

Hi Ember! Tell us a bit about yourself

Hi Kay, thank you so much for having me! My name is Ember-Raine Winters and I live in Sunny California! I write in two different genres currently. Romantic Suspense and YA Dystopian. I am a big time football fan and I love to read. Pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I like helping out with my daughter’s girl scout troop and taking my kids to the park when the weather and my busy schedule permits.

Have you always wanted to write books? What made you start?

Not always, but when I was little I did write a lot. I recently found some of the “books” I wrote in second grade. The teacher bound them for us and everything. It was fun to see what I did as a child and then realize I still do it today. I used to want to go into politics. I have an Associate’s Degree in Political Science and Philosophy. I started writing my first book after I read Divergent for the first time. I was a science fiction Dystopian junkie at the time and I thought “I can do that!” So I wrote my first book. I have always wanted to make a difference and I figured that writing would be a good way to do that. If one person enjoys my books, or learns something from them, I will be happy.

Ember, you have so much going on! You’re basically Wonder Woman- how do you balance your time between writing, studying and your family?

Thank you! * Laughs* Oh my gosh! It’s tough, let me tell you. Especially with everything going on right now. It helps that I have a good support system. My mom helps me out a lot! I do most of my writing on my phone so I can take it anywhere. I don’t know what I did before smart phones! They are definitely a life saver. I can check my e-mail, update social media or anything else I need to do whenever I want. I do most of my writing at night though. When the kids are in bed that’s the easiest time to get things done.

What genres are your favourite to read and write? Are there any you completely avoid?

I love reading and writing dystopian fiction and romance. I also like to read quite a bit of fantasy. I haven’t written any fantasy novels yet but I have a few ideas floating around my head for when the two series that I am working on now are over. I avoid the horror genre like the plague. I can’t handle zombies and other things like that. They just freak me out! *Shudders* I will try anything once except for horror.

I’m a mood reader so I read whatever strikes my mood at any given time. Right now I’m not reading much because of being crazy busy but yeah once the dust settles I will probably start reading again. The problem I have with reading is like an addiction. I can’t stop reading until I have finished. I get through roughly a book a day when I have time to read.

Who is your favourite fictional character and why?

Holy Moly! That’s a tough one! I don’t think I can come up with just one! I would have to say that Sidney from The Fae Chronicles is one of them. She is crazy good at everything she does and no matter what people throw at her she never lets it change her morals or her beliefs. She is a strong independent woman and I happen to have a soft spot for strong female characters.

If you could spend a day in any fictional world, which would it be?

The fairy world from the Darkness Series. It is dangerously beautiful and totally flawed. I think some of the most beautiful things have flaws or scars. Perfection is boring and plain. But true beauty is in the stories those scars tell. I would love to unravel the stories and mysteries of that world.

Why did you decide to use a pen name and how did you come up with such an awesome one?

I thought it would be fun. I get to be this totally different more interesting person as Ember. I can be everything I always wanted to be through my stories. Ember is a fiery name full of heat. I could be the seductress and lure people in with my words. I loved the idea of using words that were almost opposites for my pen name. Ember is also the name of the main character in The Darkness Series. I loved the name since reading the first book and I decided Ember-Raine Winters would be an awesome name. Kind of a fire and ice thing. * chuckles *

Your new novel, Beautiful Delusions, comes out today- congratulations! Please tell us all about it!

Thank you! It’s been a long time coming! Beautiful Delusions is about a girl with a dark past that has come back to haunt her. She suffers from PTSD because of one abusive relationship after another. It was important for me, as a sufferer of the same illness, to highlight the fact that women who have never been in combat can also suffer from this debilitating illness.  I created a heroine who was strong in spite of it. She deals with it, the stigma of suffering from it and she does her best not to let it control her. She is everything I want to be.

One night . . .

One terrible accident . . .

That was all it took to turn my entire life upside-down. My PTSD is worse than ever. The terror I thought I left in my past is back, and this time I might not survive the horrors he promises to bring.

An old friend, Griffin, my best friend at one time bulldozes his way back into my life. He has the power to consume me. I want him… and that is terrifying. Can he actually protect me from the evil that wants to tear me apart?

Fifteen years . . .

That’s how long I have let the guilt eat me alive for hurting her with my words the way I did. I never thought I would get the chance to atone for my sins. Now that I do, I will stop at nothing to help her, save her . . . keep her.

The only thing I want, apart from Kaylee in my bed, is to protect her from the monster who wants to destroy her.
