Hi guys! Today I have a new amazing reader here to share what she loves about the book world. Introducing Darque Dreamer!
Hi, Darque Dreamer! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Well, Hi! My name is Adrienne. Adri, or Adee for short. I go by Darque Dreamer around the interwebz. I have always had dark, vivid dreams, and one day I found an artist who spelled the word dark with que, and I was fascinated by it.. Since then I have been known as Darque Dreamer.
I am a Lab Tech turned housewife/blogger, and I have a passion for makeup, music, wild hair, and of course, books! I am an animal lover and have 3 fur kids (2 crazy cats and a spoiled Yorkie). When I am not reading or blogging you can find me creating a wild, colorful makeup look, gaming, or going to a concert!
What makes a book cover catch your eye? Have you got a favourite?
Unique, colorful book covers usually catch my eye. I love fantasy book covers, but also love covers with rich jewel tones, or rainbow type colors.
When you’re reading a blurb, what would make you want to try that book? What would put you off?
Anything involving strong female characters is a must for me. Any mention of magic, fantasy, journeys, secrets, and/or revenge usually catches my eye as well.
Usually anything talking about sex, or sweet romances is a turn off.
What makes you love a character? Who are your favourites from the books you’ve read and why?
Characters who seem to change and grow within the story are usually my favorite. I enjoy a nice dark, mysterious man who is both protective over his female counterpart, but also not afraid to let her shine. Also, as mentioned before, I am a sucker for a strong female character. I enjoy anyone who can be independent and fierce. A nice, pg-13 romance is enjoyable, but I rather enjoy a female character who isn’t boy crazy and constantly looking for love.
A few of my favorite characters are Pity Jones from Gunslinger Girl by Lyndsay ely, Kate from Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman, Lady Helen from The Dark Days Club series by Alison Goodman, Audrey Rose and Thomas Cresswell from the Stalking Jack the Ripper series, and Kaz Brekker from Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom.
What keeps a plot engaging, and makes you want to stick with a book/series until the end? Tell us about your favourite books!
Excitement, growth, and change keep a plot engaging. I don’t usually enjoy reading something where nothing seems to happen, or the characters stay exactly the same as when we were first introduced to them. I want to learn more about the characters as the story progresses and see them change as people. I want the story to become more exciting as the book or series goes on, and throw me for a loop or two.
Is there anything else you’d like to share about reading?
I can’t remember a time when I didn’t enjoy reading. When I was little I would stay up late reading Goosbumps. I fell in love with the Babysitter’s Club because Stacy was the only other type 1 diabetic I had met. I enjoy reading because I get to travel to different worlds and meet new people with every story! And, I truly love how reading sparks the imagination and feeds it like oxygen to a fire!
I had the honour of meeting this awesome lady through The Book Robin Hoods– check them out too!
